About Diversity Education

"Diversity education is the key to understanding the history of America, for it forces a conversation that few people can accept, let alone participate in. If this conversation cannot unfold within higher education, then where?" --T. B. Wallace

The Office of Diversity Education staff realizes that the earth is no longer a globe on which oceans, cultures, and languages segregate groups; technology and immigration trends have coalesced the world into a diverse and interactive community.

Given demographic projections for the 21st century, that diversity is going to increase both in depth and scope. Students will work with, live next to, and interact with people from diverse cultures and lifestyles. Within that context, this office views diversity awareness and sensitivity as a skill, as valuable as those skills acquired in the traditional classroom.

We strive to provide members of the Student Affairs division with diversity skills they can use to enhance their professional and personal lives, as well as to promote social justice.
