Timothy began his
career as instructor of writing at The
University of Alabama in 1977; he later taught
at Alabama State University, The University of
Dayton (Ohio), and Sinclair Community College
(Ohio). Timothy wanted to refine his skills as a
“holistic” educator, and he wanted to develop a
better understanding Student Affairs and its
role in the educational experience; as a result,
he left the classroom in 1987 to become
Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs, The
University of Dayton. The plan was to absorb
Student Affairs theory and practice, then return
to the classroom, prepared to execute an
integrated, holistic curriculum and pedagogy;
however, he loved his work as a Student Affairs
educator so much that he has remained in the
field since that time. His teaching since then
has been as adjunct. Timothy came to DePaul as
Director for Multicultural Student Affairs in
1996 and is currently Associate Vice President
for Diversity Education. He supervises the
Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the
Office of Diversity Education. In addition,
Timothy continues to explore holistic education,
especially its intersections with diversity
theory and practice, through innovative Student
Affairs and Academic Affairs collaborations.
Timothy firmly believes that “the classroom” of
the 21st century will be more of an experience
than of a “site.”
