Announcement to DePaul Students
What does it mean to be a “Socially Responsible Leader”?
DePaul’s new strategic plan, Vision Twenty12, has as one of its goals the preparation of “students to be socially responsible future leaders and engaged alumni.” As the university moves forward in articulating a framework for accomplishing this goal, we want to know what students think about this topic. What does social responsibility mean to you? How do you bring a sense of social responsibility into your life, be it in small or big ways? What has helped to spark and sustain that commitment in you?
You are invited to join more than 50 DePaul students who are actively engaged in service, social justice, leadership, and civic engagement in sharing your thoughts with us:
Wednesday, April 25, from 9:15 p.m. – 10:45 p.m.
Lincoln Park
Student Center 314B
OR
Friday, April 27, from 3:15-4:45 PM
Lincoln Park
Munroe Hall 114-115.
As a part of this short program and to spark conversation, DePaul has invited Sharon Daloz Parks and Larry Parks Daloz, authors of Common Fire: Lives of Commitment in a Complex World, to frame our discussion. Excerpts from their publication as well as highlights from Sharon Parks’ Leadership Can Be Taught are available here!
We look forward to seeing you there!

“Educating for Social Responsibility”
DePaul Faculty and Staff Forum
Friday, April 27th
11:00 – 1:30 pm
DePaul Center #8010, Loop Campus
One of the goals in DePaul’s new strategic plan, Vision Twenty12 is the preparation of students to be “socially responsible future leaders and engaged alumni.”
• What are the implications of this goal for teaching, advising, and educating students? What kind of pedagogy and practices contribute to this goal in and out of the classroom?
• What do students need today in their development as people, community members, and future leaders – and how can a good liberal arts education contribute to this development?
• How can the university support your efforts to teach our students to be socially responsible future leaders? What is higher education’s role in producing the socially responsible leaders of the future for our society?
Please join us for this important conversation together with acclaimed authors and educators, Sharon Daloz Parks and Larry Parks Daloz, who have been invited to help frame our discussion. They are co-authors of Common Fire: Lives of Commitment in a Complex World, which studied the evolution and development of leaders committed to the common good. Excerpts from this and other publications, as well as highlights from Sharon Daloz Parks’ Leadership Can Be Taught are available here!
RSVP Required. Lunch provided.
