Political Activist VIA Engagement Scholarships Title: Political Activist VIA Engagement (PAVE) Coordinator
Department: University Ministry
Compensation: $500.00
Position Duration: September 1, 2007 – June 1, 2008

Description and Responsibilities

Political Activist VIA Engagement (PAVE):
PAVE serves DePaul’s activist/political organizations by creating opportunities for dialogue, capacity-building, and reflection rooted in civic and spiritual dimensions of DePaul's mission.

PAVE Coordinators are responsible for:
1. Acting as a liaison between a DePaul activist/political organization and University Ministry. This will include sharing information and resources between the organization and University Ministry. PAVE coordinators must be able to respond to an e-mail or phone call within 24 hours.
2. Building community with other members of other political activist organizations and the DePaul Community Service Association by participating in weekly VIA meetings. These meetings are designed to be safe spaces where the organization members can express their personal successes, challenges and concerns openly and honestly. The reflections will utilize the VIA model. Through VIA reflection, the organizations will try to connect the Vincentian mission to civic engagement through the themes of appreciation, dialogue and solidarity.

Bring a FACE Dialogue to Your Class or Organization On November 4, 2005, DePaul's FACE team hosted its fourth of ten dialogues. The event featured Father Memo Campuzano. Father Memo is a Vincentian priest originally from Colombia with a long relationship to DePaul University. He lived, worked, and studied at DePaul from 1999 to 2001. Since that time, Father Memo has graciously taken time to speak with DePaul faculty, staff and students about the many ways his fight against social injustice has been informed by his Catholic faith. From all the members of the FACE team we would like to thank the DePaul Service and Justice Coalition for allowing us to open up their monthly meeting to host our event, and a special thank you also to Father Memo for making time for us in his busy schedule.

If you are a DePaul faculty, staff or student and you would be interested in having the FACE team organize and host a dialogue for your class, club or organization, please contact us. The dialogues are a chance to expose the DePaul community to those who have devoted their life to both social justice and faith. We are still working on setting up dialogues for both the Winter and Spring Quarters and its not to late to get involved!

For more information about and how to get involved with the FACE dialogue series please contact Rebecca Reed: rreed4@depaul.edu

FACE organizes Civic Engagement Forum at DePaul University Together with Illinois Campus Compact, the FACE Team organized a university-wide discussion of DePaul's curricular and co-curricular civic engagement strategies during "Build a Common P-16 Civic Engagement Agenda in Illinois," hosted by DePaul on November 18, 2005. It was the sixth in an autumn series of statewide civic engagement forums sponsored by Illinois Campus Compact. More than 60 DePaul students, alumni, faculty, staff-including the Rev. Dennis Holtschneider, C.M, president; Jim Doyle, vice president for Student Affairs; Laurie Worrall, director, Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning; and Brooks, director of the Student Leadership Institute-joined community partners and statewide education and political leaders to discuss opportunities.
