Rubén Álvarez Silva

Over the course of the past three years, Rubén Álvarez Silva has worked with community-based organizations and faculty in Chicago, as well as abroad, to support students and community residents along their journey of becoming the change they wish to see in the world.  As the University Minister for DePaul Community Service Association (DCSA) & Service Days, Rubén seeks to serve others in the pursuit of cultivating social justice through shared struggle, community-building, and reflection.  Currently, Rubén is pursuing a Master of Arts, in DePaul University's Social and Cultural Foundations of Education program, in preparation of becoming a teacher-student committed to critical inquiry and community empowerment.  Another of Rubén's life-long aspirations is to master the Art of Pancakes, in memory of his loving grandfather Ignacio "Nacho" Álvarez.

Katie Brick serves as Chaplain to the School for New Learning and to the College of Commerce and Kellstadt Graduate School of Business in the Loop Campus. Katie is particularly interested in workplace spirituality, interfaith topics, and accompanying people on their spiritual journeys. She leads a regular Centering Prayer group on Tuesdays at 5:00 in Lewis Chapel.

Prior to joining DePaul, Katie had a diverse work experience that included marketing, organizational development consulting, non-profit social services, hospital chaplaincy and the Bernardin Center Peacebuilders Initiative program. If you want to hear about how all this came about, just stop by DPC 11009 and ask her. Katie received a B.A. in history and an MBA from Northwestern University, and an M.Div. degree from Catholic Theological Union. She lives on the North side near a park that is great for walking.

Ghana Cooper

Guillermo Campuzano Velez is a Vincentian priest from Colombia. His work has been developed in several countries through lecturing, teaching, especially priestly consecrated and laity formation. He has also rich experience serving the underprivileged communities and advocating for human rights and human dignity. Guillermo now works in University Ministry and teaches courses in Catholic Studies, Religious Studies, and the Master’s in Public Service program. He also advises the Chicago Archdiocesan project for Latino young people and helps other dioceses in the formation process of Latino leaders. His last three years before arriving in the U.S. were spent in Aparecida, Brazil. Guillermo enjoys engaging in rich conversations about different topics such as politics, literature, or movies. He is a crazy soccer fan who will even listen to entire games via internet radio.

Ghana Cooper

Rev. Ghana M. Cooper (Ghana) is ordained in the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. Her Christian ministry experience has included working with the Catholic Church, Lutheran, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist denominations. Ghana has also engaged in interfaith dialogue and worship experiences with the Jewish and Muslim faiths. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (B.S. Human Resources), the University of Illinois at Chicago (Masters of Social Work) and McCormick Theological Seminary (Masters of Divinity). Ghana is currently working on her Doctorate of Ministry at McCormick, where her area of concentration is Parish Revitalization. Ghana sits on the Academic Programming Committee as the D.Min student representative. Ghana is known for her ability to translate her education and training into the daily realties of administration and ministry.

John DiMucci is the Assistant Director of Catholic Campus Ministry.  John came to DePaul in August 2008.  At DePaul John oversees small faith communities and CCM’s outreach and communication ministry including our weekly publication The Connection. Current projects include developing a Catholic Leadership and Ministry Program and a Catholic men’s group.  Just before coming to DePaul John served for two years as part of the team at the Sheil Catholic Center at the Law and Medical Schools on the Chicago Campuses of Northwestern University.  Prior to that John worked for five years as director of the Claretian Volunteer Program in also in Chicago.   Prior to coming to Chicago John was the Campus Minister at Cabrini College in Radnor PA, and a resident hall minister at the University of Dayton, where he earned a Masters degree in Theological Studies.  He holds a BA in Liberal Studies from Neumann College in Aston, PA. In his ancient past John was a church musician, worked in the money department of a large Philadelphia bank, sold real estate and owned and operated an ice cream parlor.

When not at DePaul John enjoys biking, cooking Italian food, musicals and serving on the Board of the Su Casa Catholic Worker House.

Celeste came to DePaul University Ministry in August 2003 with over 20 years of combined administrative and human resource experience.  In her role as Administrative Coordinator, she provides comprehensive direction for departmental administrative needs such as budget management, development of promotional materials, supervision of clerical staff and student workers, and serves as primary liaison with Human Resources, Payroll, and Procurement. Celeste currently holds a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and an M.S. in Human Resource Management.

Joyana Jacoby serves as the coordinator for the Service Immersion Trips during winter and spring breaks at DePaul. Service Immersion Trips offer students the opportunity to encounter, often for the first time, lives that are different than one’s own. Joyana is excited to have the opportunity to accompany students as they immerse themselves in new cultures and places both around the country and internationally. Prior to her work at DePaul, Joyana was working in the Office for Peace and Justice at the Archdiocese of Chicago where she coordinated programs related to comprehensive immigration reform and worked with grassroots community organizations addressing many social issues around Chicago. She also spent several years in central Mexico as a post-graduate volunteer. Joyana holds a B.A. in Theology and Sociology from Marquette University (though don’t hold Marquette against her!) You’ll often see Joyana on her bicycle or getting ready for her next canoe adventure!

Tom Judge serves as Chaplain to the College of Law and the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications, and Information Systems (CTI) via DePaul University Ministry’s Center for Spirituality and Values in Practice.  He came to DePaul University in 2004 from Loyola University Chicago where he worked within University Ministry.  Tom is completing his master of divinity degree at the University of Chicago.  He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Creighton University.   Prior to entering Divinity School, he practiced law in the state of Iowa.  Since returning to graduate school he has worked in ministry at St. Clement Catholic Church and at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Mark began as the AVP for University Ministry in June of 2005.  He holds a M.Div from the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University Chicago (1999.)  As an Associate Vice President, Mark provides comprehensive leadership and direction for the Department of University Ministry, and he is a member of the DePaul Student Affairs leadership team.  Prior to his work at DePaul, Mark was the Executive Director of Amate House, a post-graduate service and faith formation program within the Archdiocese of Chicago.  In addition, he has had extensive and varied pastoral experiences, including hospital/hospice chaplaincy, high school teaching/ministry, and young adult faith formation and development.  Mark is bilingual in Spanish, which he developed during a two year lay mission experience in Santiago, Chile, where he served upon graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1989. 

Mark and his wife, Paula, have four children, reside on the far west side of Chicago, and are members of St. Giles Parish in Oak Park.

Nick Liebman holds a B.A. in Music from Grinnell College, and a Masters in Music Composition from Butler University's Jordan College of Fine Arts School of Music. In addition to his academic pursuits, he has been an active member of the Jewish educational and youth programing community in Chicago since 2005. From teaching music to Sunday school children, to teaching high school students about the Jewish imperative to pursue justice, he has always worked to incorporate artistic expression, spiritual connectedness, and Jewish cultural and ethical ideals in his work. Nick joined Hillels Around Chicago, and the DePaul University Ministry department in February of 2009. Hillel at DePaul offers a wide variety of programs; religious, educational, cultural, social, political, student leadership development, and community service trips. With these programs, in partnership with the diverse communities on our campus, we strive to provide a vibrant Jewish experience here on campus.

As the Liturgy Coordinator for Catholic Campus Ministry, Matt is responsible for the preparation and coordination of all Catholic liturgies and prayer services on campus, including Sunday Night Mass, Evening Prayer and Taizé Prayer. He graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, with a degree in Music and Management Studies, where his student involvement included leadership in the Catholic Student Association, St. Olaf Chapel Choir and Residence Life.

Before coming to DePaul in August 2007, Matt served for five years as Pastoral Associate for Liturgical Music at Mary, Mother of the Church parish in Burnsville, MN. He is also a part of the team for Music Ministry Alive!, a week-long summer institute for young people who serve as liturgical and musical leaders in their parish/school communities. A native of Wisconsin (Go Packers!), Matt is thrilled to now live just a (very, very) long foul ball from Wrigley Field (Go Cubs!).

Abdul-Malik Ryan

Abdul-Malik grew up in Oak Park. The son of two teachers, Abdul-Malik developed a deep affection for books and learning of all kinds. As a result of his study of African-American history in high school and at DePaul and especially his encounter with the life and legacy of Malcolm X, he accepted Islam in 1994. Abdul-Malik was part of the founding of the UMMA organization at DePaul as well as the Inner City Muslim Action Network (IMAN). He graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1998 and since that time has worked as an attorney and guardian ad litem for children in the Cook County child protection system. He has also worked with IMAN in a variety of capacities from volunteer to President of the Board of Directors and served as the Imam of the Inner City Islamic Center in the southside New City neighborhood. Abdul-Malik has studied Islam with a variety of teachers and currently continues his studies primarily through the AlMaghrib Institute. He is also particularly interested in Irish history and culture and comparative religion, especially Islam and Judaism.Currently, Abdul-Malik lives in the south suburbs with his wife Moona Malik, also a DePaul graduate, and their four children.

Karl was hired in August 2000 as a Residence Hall Minister and to oversee DCSA, the weekly community service, faith and leadership formation experience with students. Currently, Karl oversees DePaul's Faith and Civic Engagement, a project which advances a core vision of Student Affairs and DePaul University: to connect, inform, and institutionally amplify faith and civic engagement work at the University. He also is a Visiting Faculty Member in DePaul's School for New Learning, teaching the "Spirituality and Homelessness: A Service Learning Externship" course.

Karl completed his Master's in City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998, and he earned his Bachelor's of Arts in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1993. He engaged in post-graduate service with the Holy Cross Brothers in Santiago, Chile from 1994-1996 while in graduate school at the Pontifícia Universidad Católica de Chile. He was the Director of the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development (PHENND) at the University Of Pennsylvania from 1998-1999. Subsequently, he was a Jesuit formation candidate at Cristo Rey Jesuit High School from 1999-2000. He currently lives in the Brighton Park neighborhood in Chicago with his wife, Maggie, and family.

Siobhan O'Donoghue

An English native, Siobhan came to DePaul in 1999 with an M. Div and M.S.W. from Loyola University.  In her role as Assistant Director for Community Service, she provides comprehensive leadership for University Ministry's commitment to and involvement in community service, including: DePaul Community Service Association (DCSA), Service Immersion Trips, Vincent and Louise (formerly Amate House) and Special Service Days at DePaul.  She is also involved in a variety of special projects such as the Concern Fast which promoted Concern's work fighting hunger and poverty in the developing world.  Prior to her work at DePaul, Siobhan served as a Jesuit and Palliottine Volunteer working with the homeless and previous to this, Siobhan worked in investment banking and advertising in London.

Javier Orozco

Dr. F. Javier Orozco, SFO provides leadership to the Religious Diversity life of the university in the area of Interreligious and Ecumenical ministry. Since his arrival to DePaul in 1995, his service has included residential ministry, retreat ministry and ongoing pastoral care ministry. His pedagogy includes courses in Religious Studies and Catholic Studies, inter alia.  He is a member of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association Executive Board (CCMA) and The Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACTHUS).

Dr. F. Javier has a Ph.D. (Theology), a B.A./M.A. (Philosophy), and an S.T.B (Systematic Theology). He is a professed brother in the Secular Franciscan Order. Currently, he serves as the Local Minister to the Brother Jocoba Community, and is the Vice Minister for the Mother Cabrini Region of the Secular Franciscan Order. He is married to his lovely wife, Theresa.

Kate Ritger

Kate is the Coordinator of Faith Formation and is therefore responsible for the preparation and coordination of the campus retreat program and the weekly Thi3rty (33) gathering, among other formation work. Kate is a Wisconsin native who migrated to Minnesota for schooling and ministry opportunities. She graduated from the College of St. Benedict with a degree in Theology and Secondary Education (2003) and St. John’s University School of Theology with a M.Div (2007). Before joining the UMIN staff Kate worked as a hospital chaplain at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she specialized in clinical ministry in a variety of settings: pediatrics, chemical addiction, psychiatry, labor and delivery, and oncology. Kate also has a strong background in spirituality, prayer, spiritual companioning, small group dynamics, social justice, and ecumenical and interfaith ministry. Kate is committed to meeting people where they are and accompanying them on their spiritual journeys.

Rev. Christopher Robinson, C.M. was born in Bakersfield, California and grew up in Houston, Texas. He was ordained to the priesthood in Perryville, Missouri on June 11, 1989. Fr. Chris has had many experiences of ministry and has taught both full-time and as an adjunct instructor at DePaul. He joined University Ministry full-time as an Associate Director of University Ministry in July of 2006. Fr. Chris coordinates efforts related to Catholic Campus Ministry and Pastoral Outreach.

Pauline Villapando

Pauline is the coordinator for the Vincent and Louise House, charged primarily with recruiting and organizing volunteering, community life and faith formation in this program that links the university to the Archdiocese of Chicago.  She also coordinates the Catholic presence in the university dormitories through the Catholic Bed & Breakfast program once a week.  Pauline is originally from the Philippines, but grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and graduated from the University of Nevada in 1999 with a B.A. in Communications. After a couple of years spent in high school youth ministry at a parish setting, she set off to start her Master of Arts  degree in Pastoral Ministry at a Jesuit university in the Philippines. After a year, she came back to the U.S. and completed her studies at the University of Dayton in Ohio.
