Chicago Police Department
The Office of Student Advocacy and Community Relations serves as the university's contact with the Chicago Police Department. We can serve as a contact for information, questions, and connections. One of the primary responsibilities is to coordinate the university's CAPS program. CAPS stands for Chicago Alternative Policing Strategies.
The DePaul University CAPS program involves the university community, students/faculty/staff and the Chicago Police Department in a partnership to work together to identify concerns and provide strategies for solutions. This partnership is the foundation of Chicago's philosophy of community policing. Our discussions over the past 4 years have covered many areas, but most specifically have centered on police practices in regards to our student community. We meet once a quarter, or as needed, on campus and concentrate on improving the quality of life in and around campus while working to enhance mutual understanding and respect among police, students and the community
Lincoln Park and Loop Neighborhood Relations
The Office of Student Advocacy and Community Relations serves as the liaison for students, student organizations and Student Affairs to our Chicagoland community neighbors. Working with the Office of Community and Government Relations, the Student Advocacy office can provide information, referrals and connections to the communities of the Lincoln Park neighborhood and the Loop community.
